Australia enjoys the privilege of being an advanced, affluent industrialised society in the global community. From this vantage point we should consider how Australia, as a good global citizen, can contribute to making the world a better and more harmonious place.
Asylum seeker policy
Australia21 has initiated a project to find a fair, just and effective approach to asylum seeker policy. The first stage of the project – a book of essays by 24 leading thinkers on this topic was launched by Sir William Deane on 17 December 2013.
Australia21’s Board has become increasingly concerned that the impacts of a number of grave global challenges are being ignored, bypassed or placed in the “too hard” basket, and that there is no sign of this changing in the immediate future.
Global action on the prevention of pneumonia
Pneumonia is a disease of poverty, causing more deaths than any other single disease in the developing world. Prevention of severe disease and death from pneumonia is a necessary priority for any program aiming to reduce maternal and child mortality.
