  • Youth Roundtable on Refugee and Asylum Seeker Policy

    Around 40 young people attended the YoungA21 event – Refugee and Asylum Seeker Policy: A framework for the Future at the ANU on 29 May. The outcome will be a short paper which will be included in the deliberations of the expert roundtable on this topic to be held at Parliament House in July.

    National conversation”Smarter about drugs” – Adelaide May 7, 2014. This was an event for young people and the whole community. Co-hosted by Australia21, the Ted Noffs Centre and the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre at the University of South Australia, it comprised an afternoon workshop (2-5pm) for young people followed by a panel discussion for parents, teachers, interested community members and young people in the evening (6.30-8pm). Both were held at the Hawke Centre in the Adelaide CBD. Live streaming of questions and comments connected young people around Australia making this a national event. The workshop and the evening discussion were filmed as a discussion starter for later use in schools, youth groups and communities.

  • Australia21 youth roundtable tackles alcohol violence problems

    The youth wing of Australia21, YoungA21, hosted a pop-up roundtable to gather youth opinion on the increasingly controversial issue of alcohol-fuelled violence.The roundtable brought together a diverse range of young people affected by violence and the changes made in NSW – bartenders, DJs, party-goers, and young police and medical professionals on the front line.   • Inequality roundtable held in Canberra

    Australia21 and The Australia Institute convened a roundtable at Parliament House on January 31 to consider the question “What should be done about growing Australian inequality?” The meeting had before it a discussion paper prepared by Professor Sharon Friel from ANU and Dr Richard Denniss from The Australia Institute entitled “Unfair economic arrangements make us sick”. It is planned to release the report of the roundtable in April 2014
